On a small East Texas lake, the water had dropped unusually low, exposing fallen trees that had long been hidden beneath the surface. For reasons no one could predict, nearly one hundred Wood Ducks gathered there that day — perched along the timber like living jewels. Artist Cory James McLaughlin and his son Henry just happened to be there to witness it.
He hasn’t seen it like that since.

This was another special day with Wood Ducks not long after Bird Haven. The Water at our local lake near my house in East Texas was especially low and the fallen trees were exposed and for some reason about 100 Wood Ducks decided it was a good day to visit. My son Henry and I just happened to be there that morning. I haven’t seen it like that since.
